You're reading: Savchenko case handed to Slovyansk court

The case of non-affiliated deputy of Ukraine Nadiya Savchenko, who is currently under arrest in the detention facility on suspicion of trying to overthrow the government, has been transferred to the Slovyansk court in Donetsk region, her cousin Vira Savchenko has reported.

“As I suspected, security officers threw the case of Nadiia into the Slovyansk court, and now the permission to meet, including for a notary, should be taken only from the “judge of Sloyansk,” she wrote on her Facebook page on Jan. 30.

Savchenko has been in custody since March 23. On March 22, the Verkhovna Rada supported the recommendations of Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko and authorized the prosecution, detention, and arrest of Savchenko. She is suspected of trying to change or overthrow the constitutional system or seize state power by force, trying to kill statesmen and public figures, preparing to carry out a terrorist attack, creating a terrorist group or terrorist organization, and handling weapons, munitions, or explosives illegally.
