Kyiv’s court of appeals has sent the indictment in the case against Verkhovna Rada (unaligned) deputy Nadiya Savchenko and ex-head of Officer Corps Volodymyr Ruban who are suspected of actions aimed at violently changing or overthrowing the constitutional order or seizing state power to the Supreme Court.

“The indictment in the criminal proceedings with charges against Savchenko and Ruban was sent to the Supreme Court to determine jurisdiction,” the press service of Kyiv’s court of appeals said on March 28.

It is reported that when making a decision, the panel of judges proceeded from the fact that Kyiv’s court of appeals was not authorized to decide on sending the criminal proceeding with charges against Savchenko and Ruban from one court to another, “because according to the indictment the crimes were committed within the territorial jurisdiction of various appellate courts.”

Savchenko is suspected of committing criminal offenses under Part 1 of Article 109 (actions aimed at forceful change or overthrow of the constitutional order or take-over of government), Part 1 of Article 14, Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 109 (actions aimed at forceful change or overthrow of the constitutional order or take-over of government), Part 1 of Article 14, Part 2 of Article 28, Article 112 (trespass against life of a statesman or a public figure), Part 1 of Article 14, Part 3 of Article 258 (act of terrorism), Part 1 of Article 258-3 (the creation of a terrorist group or a terrorist organization) and Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 263 (unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Ruban is suspected of committing criminal offenses under Part 1 of Article 14, Part 3 of Article 258 (act of terrorism), Part 1 of Article 263 (unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As reported, on Feb. 25, the Supreme Court of Ukraine made a decision according to which the Savchenko-Ruban case would be heard in the Solomiansky district court of Kyiv.

On March 26, the panel of judges of the Solomiansky district court of Kyiv granted the petition of Savchenko and Ruban’s defense to disqualify this panel, after which the case was transferred to Kyiv’s court of appeals to determine another court to hear it.

Savchenko has been in custody since March 23.

Ruban was detained at a checkpoint in Donbas with an arsenal of weapons he was apparently trying to smuggle from the occupied territory to territory of Ukraine under Kyiv’s control on March 8.
