Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) has opened a pretrial investigation into the fact of riots in an Odesa prison, the SBI’s press service has said.

“SBI investigators from Mykolaiv have begun a pretrial investigation into the official negligence of employees of Southern Correctional Colony No. 51 in Odesa,” SBI’s press service said, adding that “inadequate conditions of detention and terrible quality of food” was one of the causes for the unrest.

As reported, four prison staff members were injured during a riot at the prison on May 27. They all received medical care.
