Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is systematically stopping the activities of Internet agitators promoting separatism and fanning panic about the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease, the SBU’s press service has said.
“As of April 28, SBU cyber sleuths have exposed 241 Internet agitators who distributed various fakes about COVID-19. More than 2,000 Internet communities with a total audience of almost 900,000 have been blocked,” the SBU said.
The press service said 11 of the detected agitators acted on instructions from Russia. The SBU opened criminal proceedings against them for actions aimed at infringing on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, forcibly changing or overthrowing the constitutional order or seizing state power (Articles 109 and 110 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code). Such agitators “worked” in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Lviv, Kherson, Poltava, Kropyvnytsky and Konotop.
