Ukraine’s SBU Security Service has intercepted a telephone conversation in which the Donetsk separatists leader Oleksandr Zakharchenko discusses with a Russian citizen the fate of “nationalized” Ukrainian enterprises in Donbas.
“The conversation shows Russian decision-makers are planning to transfer most of the best Ukrainian economic assets located in the occupied territories of Donetsk region to structures controlled by oligarch Serhiy Kurchenko, who fled to Russia. It is understood that taxes from the “nationalized” enterprises will not be paid into Ukraine’s budget, and that profits will wind up in the pockets of ex-Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych,” the SBU’s press service said on March 1.
