A serviceman of the National Guard of Ukraine who kept and sold weapons brought from the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) zone in Donbas has been detained in Kyiv, the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reported.

“Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine exposed in Kyiv a serviceman of a National Guard unit for illegal storage and sale of firearms […] SBU officers detained the offender at a parking lot during the sale of a Glock-19 pistol for UAH 50,000,” reads a report posted on the SBU’s page on Facebook on Thursday, July 26.

Law enforcers established that the contract soldier sold military weapons of destruction, which he brought from the JFO zone. SBU operatives documented several facts of illegal sale of arms and ammunition by the man in the Ukrainian capital.

As a result of investigative actions, law enforcement officers seized three RPG-18 and RPG-22 grenade launchers, ten F-1 and RGD-5 grenades, a Safari pistol, more than 1,500 7.62mm cartridges, and machinegun magazines.

SBU investigators declared the detainee a suspect in committing a crime envisaged by Part 1, Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (storage and sale of firearms). The issue of choosing a preventive measure is being decided.
