The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced on April 2 that it had exposed a top ministry official who allegedly emailed secret documents to unknown people.
It was not clear if the official was arrested.
The SBU said it had seized the official’s mobile phone and tablet, which allowed its agents to track the documents.
The documents are about a plan by Ukraine’s defense ministry, border guard and law enforcement agencies to protect the country’s national interests in its east, the Black Sea, the Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait, the SBU added.
“Through his actions, the official caused damage to Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security,” the SBU said.
According to two sources in the government who requested anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the press, the official is Andriy Halushchak, state secretary of the infrastructure ministry.
The ministry confirmed that searches had taken place in its building, but declined to comment on whether the official was Halushchak.
The Kyiv Post was unable to reach Halushchak for comment. The SBU did not respond to a request for comment.
