The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a citizen of the Russian Federation who came to the Crimean peninsula after its occupation and, while holding a high post, was responsible for the development of the infrastructure industry, which contributed to the rapid militarization of Crimea, the SBU said on its website on Oct. 11.

“The man came from Russia to organize the development of important infrastructure projects. He was promised a promotion. At that time it was a common practice, since the invaders did not trust the ‘deserters’ and ‘deployed their own people’ in strategic directions. According to the investigation, in 2014-17 the functionary worked as the head of structures illegally created by the invaders on the basis of the seized Ukrainian enterprises,” the message says.

“During his tenure, the foreigner actively contributed to the illegal seizure of property of Ukrainian enterprises and their use for the development of the infrastructure of the annexed peninsula. In particular, it is about the transportation of goods of the Black Sea Fleet of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation,” the SBU said, without specifying the name and position of the detained official.

In September 2021, the citizen of the Russian Federation was informed of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 110-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (financing of actions committed with the aim of changing the borders of the territory or the state border of Ukraine in violation of the procedure established by the Constitution of Ukraine) and an indictment was sent against him to court.
