The situation in villages within a five-kilometer zone around military ammunition depots near the town of Kalynivka in Vinnytsia region is returning to normal and evacuees can return to their homes, the press office of the State Service for Emergency Situations (SSES) has reported.

“The situation is gradually returning to normal. Locals can return to their homes,” reads a report on explosions at military depots as of 6.30 p.m. on September 28, which was published on the SSES’s website.

The report notes that energy, gas supply and communications are being resumed in the area.

As reported, late September 26, a fire broke out at an ammunition depot in Kalynivka district, Vinnytsia region, leading to ammunition explosions. In the early hours of September 28, the explosions ceased and the area was demined within a 5-kilometer radius.

Two people suffered as a result of the accident. More than 30,000 people were evacuated from local villages. Seven buildings were damaged.

Vinnytsia regional officials said on September 28 that after 3.00 p,m., evacuated residents could return home, adding that explosions occurred earlier that morning.
