The Basmanny court of Moscow has ordered seizure of the assets of a former Communist Party Duma Deputy, Denis Voronenkov, who was killed in Kyiv and is accused of fraud in a case over 127 million ruble embezzlement, his lawyer Andrei Grivtsov told Interfax.

“Only today we learnt that on May 12 the Basmanny court of Moscow ordered seizure of Denis Voronenkov’s assets. The seizure was imposed on two garages, a watch and jewellery,” Grivtsov said on August 1.

“This ruling will be appealed,” Grivtsov said.

The court seized the watch and jewellery taken from a safe deposit of Voronenkov’s wife Maria Maksakova as part of a criminal case against the late parliamentarian, the lawyer said.

According to earlier reports, the Moscow Basmanny Court on March 3 granted the investigators’ request for Voronenkov’s arrest in absentia.

The late parliamentarian was charged in absentia with massive fraud committed by a group of persons and organization of falsification of the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. He was put on the international wanted persons list.

The former deputy was killed in central Kyiv on March 23.
