In Kyiv, 41 people have died from coronavirus infection COVID-19 over the past day, including an 8-year-old boy. More than half a thousand people are hospitalized in the capital every day, mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko said.

“I have said and will stress again: 98-99 percent of those who get hospitalized, are not vaccinated. And among those who died from the virus in the capital, not a single one is vaccinated,” Klitschko said at a meeting of the Kyiv City Council on Nov. 5.

The mayor said that the situation with the spread of the virus in the capital and Ukraine as a whole is alarming. Ukraine today is the third in the world and the second in Europe in mortality from COVID-19. In Kyiv, 75% of beds equipped with oxygen are filled, and intensive care units are almost full.

“As doctors note, hospitals need three times more oxygen in this wave than in previous waves! We are doing our best – 88% of beds in medical institutions in the capital are equipped with oxygen supply. We continue to equip hospitals with centralized oxygen delivery systems, install large tanks for liquid oxygen on the territory of medical facilities. We supply hospitals with the necessary equipment and medicines,” he said.

“Vaccination today is the only way to stop the rapid spread of the virus. And keep the medical system from collapsing,” Klitschko said.
