The state-owned airline, the creation of which was initiated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, will use state-owned enterpise (SOE) Antonov’s aircraft for regional transportation, Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Krykliy has said.

“The model that will be constructed will envisage that aircraft manufactured by Antonov will be used for regional transportation. Thus, the airline will be able to provide a high-quality service and use the capacities and opportunities of our aviation manufacturing,” he said during a visit to Kharkiv State Aircraft Manufacturing Company on Thursday.

At the same time, he said that at present the Infrastructure Ministry is already approaching the stage of developing a strategy for Ukraine’s aviation, “where aircraft construction will be the point.”

“The money will be allocated from the European funds. The heart of this system for the air carrier will be the support of the state aircraft manufacturing company. As it is very strange to have a dream of your own air carrier and at the same time not have concrete examples when they are involved in air transportation in Ukraine,” he said.

As reported, on June 2020, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the government had already developed a concept for the future state Ukrainian air carrier.

At the end of April 2020, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced an initiative to create a state-owned airline, the fleet of which will be formed from aircraft manufactured by SOE Antonov.
