Chairman of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk is in favor of joint accession to the European Union of Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova.

“We are very clearly aware that it will be difficult for Ukraine to do this alone. We would like to be considered together with other countries, namely Georgia and Moldova. Ukraine wants to be the leader of this group,” Stefanchuk said at a meeting with the Head of the European delegation, a Member of the European Parliament, Co-President of the Euronest PA Andrius Kubilius in Kyiv on Oct. 27.

According to the parliament’s website, Stefanchuk also drew attention to the fact that clearly defined prospects for Ukraine’s integration aspirations will affect the speed and quality of reforms.

“The course of Ukraine in the EU is unchanged, during this period we have fulfilled a certain amount of promises and are ready to implement the necessary reforms in the future. But we need to have a quite foreseeable goal. We must get to the final point where we are going. This will affect the speed and quality of what is happening in Ukraine. That is why I sincerely hope that you will continue to defend the ideas and aspiration of Ukraine to become a full-fledged member of the EU both personally and as the head of the European Parliament delegation to the Euronest PA,” he said.

The Verkhovna Rada chairman said the issue of European integration unites society and recalled that Ukraine’s European integration course is enshrined in the Constitution and in confirmation of this thesis, on Oct. 8, the parliament adopted a resolution on priority issues of Ukraine’s integration into the EU, and last week held the first extraordinary plenary session dedicated exclusively to European integration bills.
