You're reading: Supreme Court opens proceedings in one of cases on imposing sanctions against TV channels

The Court of Cassation within the Supreme Court of Ukraine has opened proceedings in the case of a citizen’s claim against the presidential decree, which has recently enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on the application of sanctions to the 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK television channels.

“On Feb. 26, 2021, the Court of Cassation within the Supreme Court, issued a ruling on the opening of proceedings in case No. 9901/22/21 on the claim of a citizen who disputes the decree of the President of Ukraine (…) on the NSDC decision of Feb. 2, 2021, on the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) in terms of the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) to television channels,” the court said on the Facebook page.

It is noted that the case is scheduled for consideration in court with the summons of the sides on March 29, 2021, at 14:30.

In addition, on Feb. 26, the Supreme Court received a claim from Leader TV LLC, which also appealed against this presidential decree, namely, clause five of the second appendix, according to which sanctions were applied to the plaintiff. The claim was assigned the No. 9901 / 42/21 registration number of the case.

On the same day, a lawsuit was filed from New Format TV LLC to challenge the decree, namely, clause two of the second appendix, according to which sanctions were applied to the plaintiff. The claim was assigned the No. 9901 / 45/21registration number of the case.
