Ukraine has all resources and political will to overcome the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030, Acting Minister of Health Ulana Suprun has said at a press conference.

“Ukraine has the largest program in the Central Europe and Central Asia region for the treatment of HIV/AIDS patients. And now Ukraine has every chance to further improve the situation. The country has political will for medical reform that will impact the overcoming of the epidemic. We are strengthening primary health care so that family doctors have access to testing patients for HIV/AIDS,” she said.

Suprun stressed Ukraine’s plan is to overcome the epidemic by 2030.

She also clarified that as of July 1 there were 136,965 HIV-infected people under medical supervision. According to estimates of the Public Health Center at the Ministry of Health, there live about 240,000 HIV-infected citizens in Ukraine. Over the past 30 years 43,306 Ukrainians died of AIDS.
