The Synod of Orthodox Church of Cyprus on Nov. 25, 2020 issued a communiqué recognizing the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), the OCU press service said.

“The Holy Synod of Orthodox Church of Cyprus, at meetings on Nov. 23 and Nov. 25, 2020, discussed in detail the Ukrainian ecclesiastical issue and the problematic situation that arose with the commemoration of Epiphanius as the Primate of the Church of Ukraine by His Beatitude Chrysostomos, the Archbishop of Cyprus, and decided not to oppose this decision of His Beatitude. At the same time, the Holy Synod expects a broad discussion with common participation to overcome the current crisis, which threatens to split the Church of Christ,” the OCU press service said.

As reported, in October, Primate of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus, Archbishop Chrysostomos II, during the synodal joint liturgy, mentioned in the Diptych the name of Metropolitan Epiphanius of Kyiv and All Ukraine as the primate of the autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Thus, the Cyprus Church became the fourth church to recognize the local OCU, after the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Church of Greece and the Alexandrian Patriarchate.
