According to the materials of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), a resident of Sumy has been convicted for attempting to commit a terrorist attack at a military facility, the SBU’s press service has reported.

“Law enforcers established that a resident of the regional center was recruited by Russian special services. SBU employees documented that in early December 2017, the culprit received the task from his supervisors to carry out a terrorist attack at a military facility on the Day of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” the report says.

An explosive device equivalent to almost two kilograms of TNT was transferred to the man.

SBU employees detained the attacker when he was trying to plant explosives outside a military facility.

During the searches at the place of residence of the culprit, law enforcers found computer equipment with evidence of illegal activity in favor of the aggressor country.

During the pre-trial investigation, the terrorist provided investigators with all necessary assistance. The court found the detainee guilty of committing a crime under Part 2, Article 15 and Part 2, Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to four years in prison.
