You're reading: Turchynov says Ukraine ready for response to buildup of Russian military presence in Azov Sea

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov emphasizes that Ukraine is ready to respond adequately to the buildup of the Russian military presence in the Sea of Azov and will strengthen its component in this region.

“The Ukrainian military also plan to conduct serious exercises in the Sea of Azov. We will be building up our military component in response to an increase of the presence of the Russian Federation,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Oct. 4, responding to the question of how Ukraine intends to respond to Russia’s planned major exercises in the Sea of Azov.

Turchynov noted that Ukraine is increasing its Navy, significantly enhances the coastal defense and aviation component.

“Of course, we are ready to respond to any provocation from the Russian Federation,” he assured.
