You're reading: TV journalist Nikiforov replaces Mendel as Zelensky’s press secretary

Television anchor Serhiy Nikiforov has been appointed President Volodymyr Zelensky’s new press secretary, Mykhailo Podolyak, an aide to Zelensky’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak, told Radio Liberty/Radio Free Europe on June 24.

Nikiforov, 34, was born in Kryvy Rih in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Zelensky’s hometown.

He graduated from Kyiv National University’s journalism faculty.

Nikiforov worked at the state-owned Pershy Natsionalny channel from 2007 to 2011, Euronews from 2011 to 2017 and oligarch Rinat Akhmetov’s Ukraina and Ukraina 24 channels since 2018.

In April the President’s Office said that Yulia Mendel would step down as Zelensky’s press secretary.
