Two of the three suspects in the ‘backpack case’, including the son of Internal Affairs Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, Oleksandr, have been notified of suspicion against them, a source told Interfax-Ukraine.
“Two out of three suspects have been notified of suspicion,” the source said.
Avakov earlier confirmed that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine searched the premises of his son Oleksandr. A number of media reported that searches are being conducted as part of the investigation into the purchase of backpacks for the Interior Ministry and the National Guard in late 2014 and early 2015, launched by the Internal Affairs Ministry in 2015. Later, the ex-adviser to the head of the Interior Ministry, leader of the Socialist Party of Ukraine, Illia Kiva, and MP Serhiy Leschenko of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc reported the detention of Oleksandr Avakov in Kyiv.
The agency also learnt about the detention of former deputy interior minister Serhiy Chebotar in the case, on which a search was conducted in Kharkiv on October 31.
On October 31, Avakov’s son was taken to NABU.
Solomiansky District Court of Kyiv will not consider the petition for choosing preventive measure against Oleksandr Avakov on October 31, the court spokesman, Yana Kvitchenko, has said.
