You're reading: Tymoshenko discusses ways of establishing peace in Donbas, fight against corruption in Ukraine with US Assistant Secretary of State

Leader of the Batkivschyna faction Yulia Tymoshenko has discussed ways of establishing peace in eastern Ukraine and the situation with the annexed Crimea with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Wess Mitchell.

The press service of the party reported that the meeting was held on February 9 as part of the Tymoshenko’s visit to the United States.

During the meeting, Tymoshenko and Mitchell, special attention was also paid to the fight against corruption.

“It was about the effectiveness of the functioning of existing anti-corruption institutions and the prospects for the creation of the Anti-Corruption Court, which is completely independent,” the party said.

In addition, Tymoshenko met with the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker.

“Yulia Tymoshenko discussed the prospects for the settlement of the conflict in the east of Ukraine, the possibility of implementing the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas and issues of bilateral cooperation between the United States and Ukraine,” the Batkivschyna said.

The Batkivshchyna leader and the U.S. Special Representative also discussed the political and economic situation in Ukraine and how it could affect prospects for achieving sustainable peace in Donbas.

In addition, the parties pointed out the need for Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions to produce concrete results, the importance of the rule of law and democratic political process in the context of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
