You're reading: Tymoshenko says going to submit impeachment bill to Rada

A draft law on the impeachment of the president will be one of the first to be submitted to the parliament after a change of power, presidential candidate Yulia Tymoshenko, leader of the All-Ukrainian Association Batkivshchyna, has said.

According to a statement, published on the party’s website, Tymoshenko believes that in the current Constitution the impeachment procedure is written out “in a way that no one can ever implement it.”

“The Constitution says how to dump the president but there is a small phrase: the procedure of impeachment and bringing the president to justice can be implemented only if a respective law on impeachment is passed,” Tymoshenko said at a meeting with voters in Uman, Cherkasy region.

She claims that since 1996 and until now such a law has not been passed. “It doesn’t exist today. This means that there is no way for impeachment. The Constitution was not written for you. It is written in such a way that no one is responsible for anything. No one is controlled. They control themselves,” the politician said.

Batkivshchyna’s leader said she believes that the new Constitution will lay down procedures that will allow Ukrainians “to recall any official who violates the law or cannot cope with the duties assigned to them, even to the highest officials.” Voters will be able to recall both state leaders and deputies.
