Ukraine fully supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said.

“I firmly condemn the recognition by the Syrian regime of the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. We continue to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and invariably stand shoulder to shoulder with our Georgian friends,” Klimkin said on his Twitter microblog on May 29.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry also condemned Syria’s decision to recognize independence and establish diplomatic relations with the occupied territories of Georgia – Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

“Such actions are another violation of the universally recognized norms and principles of international law on the part of the regime of Bashar Assad and incontrovertible evidence of the intention of the current Syrian government to please the Kremlin regime. […] Ukraine confirms its adherence to the policy of supporting state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and considers this decision of Damascus null and void from the point of view of international law,” Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said.
