You're reading: Ukraine cuts coal output by 9.4% in eight months

Ukraine cut coal production by 9.4% year-on-year in January-August, to 23.592 million tonnes, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry told Interfax-Ukraine.

Coking coal output fell by 24.5%, to 4.497 million tonnes and production of steam coal by 5% to 19.095 million tonnes.

State run mines reduced production by 20.9%, to 3.143 million tonnes, with coking coal output down 49.8%, to 567,600 tonnes and steam coal output falling by 9.4%, to 2.576 million tonnes.

Coal mines in the Donetsk region produced 7.954 million tonnes of coal, down 22.8% year-on-year, those in Luhansk region mined 1.556 million tonnes, down 43.6%, Dnipropetrovsk region 13.022 million tonnes, up 10.6%, Lviv region 984,400 tonnes, down 6.9% and Volyn region 76,400 tonnes, down 43.1%.

Coal production fell by 26.1% year-on-year in August, to 2.543 million tonnes.
