From the archives: Wanted! Banker Busted!
Igor Gilenko, the disgraced former top executive of Nadra Bank, was flying high with powerbrokers during this Oct. 10, 2008 meeting, when the 43-year-old Russian citizen (center and top mug shot) shook hands with President Victor Yushchenko. National Bank of Ukraine advisory board chairman Petro Poroshenko, now the nation’s foreign minister, is at Gilenko’s right. The meeting, attended by Gilenko and other top bankers, came during the onset of the global financial crisis. On Oct. 9, prosecutors announced that Gilenko is wanted on suspicion of embezzling money from Nadra Bank, which received nearly $1 billion in emergency refinancing assistance from the central bank. An arrest warrant has been issued for the fugitive. Complete coverage starts on page 3. (Mykhailo Markiv)
