Ukraine’s State Environmental Inspectorate has launched a database and information center of Russia’s alleged environmental crimes in the country.
“The military aggression of the Russian Federation harms not only the life and health of people, [and] the infrastructure of Ukraine, but also the environment of our state,” the newly created website says.
There are four ways people can report about ecological violations: by calling a hotline, on the agency’s Telegram channel, by email or completing an online form.
The multi-governmental agency seeks information about emergencies such as, explosions and bombardment of fuel and lubricant warehouses, oil storage facilities and enterprises that use chemicals in production.
Reports are sought concerning damage or destruction of sewage treatment plants, damage to dams and hydraulic systems and the burning of waste disposal sites. Soil damage and deforestation should also be reported.
The operational headquarters of the agency is composed of the parliamentary committee on ecological policy, the Security Service (SBU), a Kyiv municipal enterprise, the National Security and Defense Council, Prosecutor General’s Office, State Forest Resources Agency and Ministry of Ecology and National Resources.
