Ukraine has joined the NATO Energy Security Center of Excellence, the Energy Ministry’s press service said on March 18.

According to the report, the corresponding technical agreement was signed by head of the ministry Yuriy Vitrenko during the visit of President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda.

“From now on, Ukraine will have the same access as NATO member states to opportunities to support NATO’s potential development processes. We will be able to receive full, timely, high-quality expertise on various aspects of energy security and attract the best experience of NATO member states,” the ministry’s press service quoted Vitrenko as saying.

At the same time, Ukraine and Lithuania signed a joint declaration on the creation of a working group to strengthen strategic cooperation in the energy sector, which includes, in particular, minimizing the influence of the Russian Federation on the energy sector.

At the same time, Vitrenko confirmed the goals of Ukraine in the shortest possible time to disconnect the energy system from the networks of Russia and Belarus and synchronize it with the European ones, as well as to strategically refuse from import of electricity from the Russian Federation and Belarus.

From his side Lithuanian Energy Minister Dainius Kreivys spoke in favor of the need to coordinate the actions of the two sides and “concentrate efforts on preventing manipulations by Russia and using energy as an instrument of geopolitical blackmail.”

According to him, the common threats facing Lithuania and Ukraine open up opportunities for strengthening the energy partnership between the two states.
