Former Mayor of Sloviansk Nelia Shtepa has received a compensation in amount of 3,600 euro from Ukraine under respective ruling of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Shtepa’s defense lawyer Oleksandr Shadrin has said.

“She has received it [the compensation] in full recently,” he said.

As reported, in October 2019, the ECHR considered Shtepa’s complaint about prolonged non-alternative detention, found a violation of Article 5 and Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights and obliged Ukraine to pay Shtepa a compensation in the amount of EUR 3,600 (EUR 2,600 in compensation for the violation of the law and 1,000 euro for legal assistance).

Shtepa was arrested on July 13, 2014. She is charged with committing criminal offenses under Part 3 of Article 110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, which resulted in the death of people) and Part 1 of Article 258-3 (the creation of a terrorist group or organization) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
