You're reading: Ukraine preparing 5 Donbas reintegration scenarios for Normandy-format summit

Possible Donbas reintegration scenarios were approved at a coordination conference, which took place on Tuesday with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ahead of the Normandy-format summit in Paris, the Ukrainian presidential press service said in a statement.

“Five scenarios of reintegration of the temporarily occupied Donbas territories were approved at the conference. While discussing the scenarios and their technicalities, the Ukrainian president tasked Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Ruslan Khomchak with visiting the Joint Forces Operation area in the near future,” the statement said.

Zelensky underlined the inadmissibility of settling the problem of occupied territories by military methods and the need to achieve peace in eastern Ukraine by political and diplomatic means, the press service said.

National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Secretary Oleksiy Danilov expressed confidence of Ukraine’s ability to regain the uncontrolled territories and to stop the war with the support of international partners.

“It has been decided that the NSDC will hold a meeting chaired by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before the Normandy-format summit,” it said.

The four participatory states of the Normandy format (Ukraine, France, Germany, and Russia) are due to hold their summit in Paris on Dec. 9.
