Ukraine is preparing its argument about the inexpediency of recommendations made by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on limiting flights performed by European airlines over the eastern part of Ukraine, Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan has reported.

“I am grateful to colleagues from the European Union who, instead of announcing their unilateral decision, are discussing the issue with us. I had a conversation with European Commissioner for Transport and Mobility [Violeta] Bulc on the matter. We agreed that this week we will provide all the argument of the Ukrainian side that we consider such a bulletin to be incorrect,” he said at a briefing.

The minister noted feedback is expected from a number of Ukrainian agencies and expressed hope that once it is received it will be sent to the European side.

“At the same time, the threat is serious enough, since even if the EASA decision is non-regulatory, we understand that many companies will listen to it,” Omelyan said.

He added Ukraine does not understand the reasons for strengthening security measures, because, according to available information, the deterioration of the situation is not observed.
