Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises in December 2019 reduced steel production by 17.2% compared to the same period in 2018, to 1.561 million tonnes, rising from the 15th to 12th place in the ranking of 64 countries, the major global manufacturers of these products, compiled by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).

In December, a decrease in steel production from December 2018 was recorded in almost all the countries of the top ten, except for China, Turkey, and Iran.

The top ten steel producing countries according to December results are as follows: China (84.265 million tonnes, an increase of 11.6%), India (9.281 million tonnes, a decline of 0.8%), Japan (7.784 million tonnes, a decrease of 8%), the United States (7.457 million tonnes, a decline of 0.3%), Russia (6 million tonnes, a decrease of 3%), South Korea (5.876 million tonnes, a decrease of 4.7%), Turkey (2.893 million tonnes, a growth by 0.2%), Germany (2.850 million tonnes, a drop of 11.7%), Iran (2.895 million tonnes, a growth of 40%), and Brazil (2.416 million tonnes, a decrease of 10.8%).

Some 64 countries in December 2019 produced 152.121 million tonnes of steel, which is 4% more than in December 2018.

Italy ranks 11th (23.245 million tonnes, a 5.2% fall), Taiwan 12th (22.065 million tonnes, a 5.1% fall), Ukraine 13th (20.848 million tonnes, a decrease of 1.2%), Vietnam (20.066 million tonnes, an increase of 43.2%), and Mexico (18.595 million tonnes, a decrease of 8%).
