You're reading: Ukraine reduces electricity consumption by 2.2 percent in three months

Electricity consumption in Ukraine in January-March 2019, taking into account in-process losses, decreased by 2.2 percent (by 945.7 million kWh) compared to the same period last year, to 42.009 billion kWh, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry has told Interfax-Ukraine.

Excluding in-process losses, electricity consumption in the three months declined by 1.2 percent (by 402.9 million kWh), to 33.177 billion kWh.

The country’s industry, excluding in-process losses, reduced electricity consumption by 1.2 percent, to 13.307 billion kWh. Metallurgical industry consumed 7.513 billion kWh (0.5 percent less from January-March 2018), fuel industry some 916.3 million kWh (3.9 percent down), machine building some 1.158 billion kWh (4.5 percent less), chemical and petrochemical some 812.1 million kWh (4.9 percent less), food and processing some 1.107 billion kWh (1.7 percent more), the sector of construction materials some 475.9 million kWh (0.9 percent less), and others some 1.325 billion kWh (0.1 percent less).

In addition, agricultural enterprises consumed 921.4 million kWh (3.9 percent more), transport some 1.896 billion kWh (2.6 percent less), and construction some 324.1 million kWh (7.5 percent more).

In January-March, the country’s population consumed 10.257 billion kWh (2.8 percent less), household consumers some 4.329 billion kWh (2.5 percent less), and other non-industrial consumers some 2.142 billion kWh (8.2 percent more).
