An agent of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), who collected information about the latest Ukrainian developments in the field of missile construction and was exposed by counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), has been sentenced to eight years in prison, the SBU press service said on Aug. 18.

“A court verdict against the FSB agent who collected data about the latest Ukrainian developments of missile systems has entered into force. The court has found the offender guilty under Part 1 of Article 111 [treason] of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” the statement said.

It notes that the pretrial investigation established that, acting on instructions from the security services of the aggressor country, the offender intended to obtain information about the latest military development – the Neptune missile system.

“For this, he tried to recruit servicemen of one of the research centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The SBU counterintelligence officers detained the agent while trying to transfer secret technical documentation on a modern missile system,” the security service says.
