You're reading: Ukraine slightly cuts electricity consumption in January-February

Electricity consumption in Ukraine fell by 0.3 percent, or 91.3 million kWh in January and February 2018 compared to January and February 2017, to 28.255 billion, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry has told Interfax-Ukraine.

The figures take into account technological losses in the power grids.

Without taking into account technological losses, electricity consumption in January and February 2018 increased by 0.8 percent, or 167.4 million kWh, to 22.387 billion kWh.

The industry of the country, excluding technological losses, increased electricity consumption by 3.8 percent, to 8.853 billion kWh. In particular, metallurgy consumed 5.035 billion kWh (4.9 percent up from January and February 2017), the fuel industry consumed 636.3 million kWh (2.7 percent down), machine building 762.1 million kWh (3.5 percent down), chemical and petrochemical industries 591.3 million kWh (33.4 percent up), food and processing industry 694.6 billion kWh (2.1 percent down). Producers of construction materials consumed 301.1 million kWh (1.9 percent up) and other sectors decreased power consumption by 0.8 percent, to 833.4 million kWh.

Agriculture alone consumed 589.8 million kWh (a 3.5 percent decrease), the transport sector 1.283 billion kWh (a 2.1 percent decrease), and the construction sector 183.7 million kWh (a 6.2 percent decrease).

Households in January and February 2018 consumed 7.156 billion kWh (1 percent down), providers of utilities services bought 3.077 billion kWh (1.2 percent up), and other non-industrial consumers 1.244 million kWh (4.5 percent down).

Industry accounted for 39.5 percent of total electricity consumption in January and February 2018 compared with 38.4 percent year-over-year. The share of households decreased from 32.5 percent to 32 percent.
