You're reading: Ukraine, Switzerland sign memo of cooperation in Ukrainian railway transport development

The Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure, JSC Ukrzaliznytsia and Stadler CIS AG, Stadler Rail AG (Switzerland) and the Swiss Export Risk Insurance (SERV) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which defines the basis for cooperation and a mechanism for joint work of the parties on the development of the railway transport sector in Ukraine, according to the presidential press service.

It is noted that the signing of the document gives a start to the opening of export financing of the Swiss Confederation for Ukraine. Funds in the amount of up to 500 million euros will be used to develop the Ukrainian railway transport sector.

“The cooperation involves not only the purchase of trains, but also the localization of Stadler production due to the construction of a new plant on the territory of Ukraine,” the President’s Office said.

It specifies that within the cooperation with Stadler, it is planned to purchase 30 suburban electric trains produced by this company for Kyiv, another 30 will be distributed between Kharkiv and Dnipro.

“In addition, the memorandum speaks of 20 new regional electric trains and 10 long-distance electric trains produced by Stadler to renew the rolling stock of Ukrzaliznytsia,” the President’s Office said.
