The Saber Junction 2020 multinational exercise, which involves servicemen from 17 countries, among them Ukraine, has begun at the Hohenfels Training Area in Germany, the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Air Assault Forces said.

“Ukraine will be represented by a unit from the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Air Assault Forces stationed in Lviv region,” the command’s public relations service said in a statement on Aug. 6.

“Just like units from other participatory states, the Ukrainian unit has spent 14 days in quarantine at the military base,” the statement said. “For the safety of the participants in the multinational exercise, the servicemen have been tested for COVID-19 several times, and the test results came back negative,” it said.

Ukrainian paratroopers began preparing for the drill on August 5.

“During the field stage of the Saber Junction 2020 multinational exercise, the unit from the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade will be operating within the 503rd Regiment of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team of the U.S. Armed Forces in Europe,” the statement said.

Saber Junction is a series of multinational exercises held by the 7th Army Training Command of the U.S. Armed Forces.
