Denmark will give 500,000 doses and Romania will give 100,800 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Ukraine through the European Civil Protection Mechanism, the European Commission announced on July 15.
Daniel Puglisi, press officer for humanitarian aid and crisis management at the EU Commision, told the Kyiv Post that these vaccines are made by AstraZeneca.
In total, the member states of the European Union will provide over 3 million doses to countries in need outside of the EU. The European Commission will coordinate the delivery and finance up to 75% of transportation costs.
“EU Member States continue to support global vaccination efforts. 3 million vaccines have already been facilitated via the European Civil Protection Mechanism,” Janez Lenarčič, Commissioner for Crisis Management, said. “I thank all countries for showing their solidarity. Vaccination for all is essential to beat this global pandemic.”
The EU plans to give COVID-19 vaccines to Albania, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Taiwan, Tunisia and Ukraine.
So far, Albania, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cape Verde, Kosovo, Moldova, North Macedonia, Serbia and Suriname have received full or partial shipments from the EU.
