Ukrainian Parliament’s commissioner for human rights Liudmyla Denisova has thanked Germany’s Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid Bärbel Kofler for support of Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov imprisoned in Russia and asked her for helping arrange a meeting with him.

“I am very grateful to the Federal Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid of Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, Ms. Kofler, for supporting the protection of Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov’s right to life, and I ask her to help me organize my personal meeting with Oleh Sentsov,” the Ukrainian ombudsman wrote on Facebook on July 30.

She attached a photocopy of her letter to Kofler.

“…Information from various sources about the state of health of Oleh Sentsov, who has been on hunger strike for almost 80 days, is highly controversial. It [information] needs independent verification through my personal meeting with Oleh. In this regard, I ask for your possible assistance in this issue,” the letter says.

Denisova also expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation with Kofler in the human rights sphere.

Earlier, Kofler said in a statement that Germany calls on Russia to provide medical assistance to Sentsov without delay.
