The Ukrainian-controlled town of Sukha Balka some 10 kilometers southwest of Toretsk, and about 10 kilometers from the front line was shelled by Russian-backed forces overnight on June 15, according to Ukrainian officers in the Joint Coordination and Control Center (JCCC), a cross-frontline military liaison body.
A large-caliber artillery round, probably a 152-millimeter shell, fired from the occupied city of Horlivka, made a direct hit on a house in Sukha Balka, killing a 52-year-old male inside, the JCCC said.
“In that street, three other residential houses were damaged, and a power line was broken, leaving the whole town without electricity,” Ukraine’s military press center quoted the JCCC as saying, adding that at least five other impact craters had been found in the area.
“Besides, a gas pipeline and a water pumping tower were damaged as well,” the press center said.
Another Ukrainian-controlled frontline city, Maryinka, just west of Donetsk, was also shelled overnight, Donetsk Oblast Governor Pavlo Zhebrivsky said in a post on his Facebook page on June 15.
At least three houses were damaged by enemy Grad-P rockets, Zhebribsky said. No casualties were reported.
According to Ukraine’s military press center, three Ukrainian servicemen were injured in the last day by the enemy fire, with heavy mortar and grenade launcher attacks being recorded northeast of Mariupol.
Overnight attacks were also reported at other hotspots, including Pisky, Avdiyivka, Svitlodarsk, Mayorsk, Krymske and Stanytsia Luhanska.
