Chief of the National Guard of Ukraine Mykola Balan has been diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) on April 17, Deputy Interior Minister of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko said.

“Chief of the National Guard of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Mykola Balan has been tested positive for coronavirus today. The disease showed almost no symptoms. He is in satisfactory condition,” he said on Facebook.

Gerashchenko also said that Balan went on self-isolation on April 17 and all people who contacted him recently will be tested.

“The National Guard continues fulfilling its tasks in full. First Deputy Chief, Lieutenant General Volodymyr Kondratiuk will carry out the duties of the chief of the National Guard,” the deputy minister said.
