You're reading: Ukrainian Ballet on European Stage: Full House in Lithuania

On Oct. 29 and 30, the ballet performance “Aladdin” premiered at the Kaunas State Music Theater in Lithuania to a full house.

In May 2022, both the Kyiv Opera and Kaunas State Musical Theater signed a contract to host “Aladdin” for an indefinite period. The ballet is produced by Ukrainian creative team members Serhiy Kon, Oksana Khamrovska, Dmytro Kuryata, Nataliya Klisenko, and Oksana Madarash as the stage conductor.

Lithuania’s Kaunas State Musical Theater had originally planned to stage “Cipollino” by Aram Khachaturian, but following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the European artists, in a sign of solidarity, changed their repertoire in favor of the Ukrainian ballet.

It is hoped that “Aladdin” – performed to the music of Oleksandr Rodin and staged by the creative team of the Kyiv Opera Theater – will be performed in Lithuania for many years.

The ballet debuted at the Kyiv Opera Theater on Oct. 8, 2021, with a spectacular production. The classical plot, compelling choreography, and amazing costumes combined with modern video art won over the hearts of the Ukrainian audience.

Now, the Ukrainian ballet is gathering favorable reviews from the discerning European public.
