Ukrainian border guards have participated in anti-terrorist drills staged on the initiative of the SBU Security Service of Ukraine in Kherson region on the administrative border between mainland Ukraine and Russian-occupied Crimea.

Over 100 servicemen of the Kherson and Berdiansk border detachments took part in the exercises to block the administrative border, as “the legend had it that alleged criminals could have been heading towards temporarily occupied Crimea after having committed an act of sabotage,” the press office of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has said.

“Sniper teams worked out tasks of destroying ‘terrorists’ keeping hostages in abandoned buildings. As part of their exercises, the border guards ‘found’ explosives and firearms that were being ‘smuggled’ across the entry and exit checkpoints,” it said.

The antiterrorist exercises did not affect the work of such checkpoints as Chonhar, Kalanchak and Chaplynka. “They worked in normal mode, without creating inconvenience to citizens who were crossing of the administrative border,” it added.
