A Ukrainian citizen flying to Kyiv from Istanbul carried dozens of diamonds in his underwear, Ukraine’s State Border Service said on July 2.

After his plane had landed in Kyiv Boryspil International Airport, the 36-year old man failed to declare diamonds and jewelry worth more than Hr 2 million ($74,000) he had brought from Turkey.

Instead, he used the green corridor designated for people who don’t bring in any items subject to customs declaration.

He told the customs officers he had nothing to declare. However, when they started checking the man’s carry-on baggage, they found a plastic bag with nine diamond golden rings and one diamond.

After getting caught, the man confessed that he had more diamonds with him and took the stones out of the underpants he was wearing.

Customs officers confiscated the diamonds weighing over 14 carats and nine golden rings.

Apart from confiscation, the man is facing only a fine of Hr 1,700.
