You're reading: Ukrainian court arrests Russian sand-mining company’s vessel

A Ukrainian court has sided with prosecutors who asked for the arrest of a vessel currently moored at Yuzhne in Odesa region, owned by a Russian company which mines sand in the Black Sea’s Karkinit Bay off the Crimean coast, which is part of the Ostrovy Lebedyni Reserve.

The vessel has been seized to reimburse for the damage caused by operations of the Russian company, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko wrote on Facebook.

“It was established that the mining operation is carried out by a dredge boat registered at the Russian port of Tuapse, owned by Trans Services Maritime,” Lutsenko said.

The company’s other vessels regularly enter Ukraine, he said.

“An arrest has been imposed on the vessel currently at the port town of Yuzhne in Odesa region, which is owned by the rogue Russian company,” Ukrainian prosecution authorities said.
