The Kyiv Post asked the Ukrainian Embassy in Berlin for its position on the Kalandadze case. Here is their reply, dated Jan. 10.
In the context of your inquiry regarding the detention on Dec. 19, 2021, of Giorgi Kalandadze at Berlin Brandenburg Airport in Germany, we hereby inform you of the following.
The case regarding the detention of citizen of Ukraine Giorgi Kalandadze has been monitored by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Federal Republic of Germany from day one.
An extradition check by the competent German authorities of the materials in criminal proceedings initiated against Giorgi Kalandadze in Georgia is currently underway. Ukrainian diplomats are providing the necessary consular support in this case in accordance with international agreements in the Consular Sphere, monitoring observance of the legal rights of citizen of Ukraine Giorgi Kalandadze and maintaining contact with him and his legal representatives.
