By calling a meeting of the UN Security Council, Russia has manipulated the instruments available to the Security Council and wishes to once again reproach Ukraine for failing to comply with the Minsk agreements, Kateryna Zelenko, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, has said.

“For Russia, the [recent] convocation of the UN Security Council is an opportunity to once again manipulate the tools available to the Security Council in order to reproach the Ukrainian side for allegedly failing to fulfill the Minsk accords,” Zelenko said at a new briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

The spokesperson said that for Ukraine’s international partners, the meeting of the UN Security Council is another reason to demonstrate their unity in support of Ukraine. “I think the world community will demonstrate its attitude to the Russian stance as early as February 20, when a discussion will start at the General Assembly to focus on the occupied territories of Ukraine,” she said.

Zelenko said the de-escalation of the situation in Donbas is possible pending the implementation of priority security measures within the framework of the Minsk agreements. “The fact that Ukraine has been implementing the Minsk accords has been recognized by everyone,” Zelenko said.
