Commander of the Ukrainian Joint Forces, Lt. Gen. Serhiy Nayev, has asked Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) Alexander Hug to help stop attacks in Donbas.

“Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine Alexander Hug initiated an unscheduled meeting with Joint Forces Commander Lt. Gen. Nayev late at night on May 17, 2018. Lt. Gen. Nayev urged Hug to make the Russian forces of occupation and the illegal military forces they have formed to stop the attacks on territory controlled by the Ukrainian government, especially [attacks] involving the use of weapons prohibited by the Minsk Agreements,” a statement posted on the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s website on May 18 said.

Russia-backed separatists have launched 930 attacks in Donbas territories held by the Ukrainian government since the beginning of the Joint Forces Operation on May 1, and weapons prohibited by the Minsk Agreements have been used 274 times, Nayev said.

The general showed Hug photographs to demonstrate that the vicinity of Avdiyivka has been hit by BM-21 Grad rocket launchers.
