TBILISI – Georgian President Giorgi Margvelasvhili, by his decree of April 12, has reinstated Georgian citizenship for the former head of Ukraine’s National Police, Khatia Dekanoidze, Georgian media reported on May 2, citing the presidential administration.

Under the Georgian laws, Dekanoidze automatically lost Georgian citizenship in 2015 on becoming a Ukrainian citizen. After voluntary resignation as head of Ukraine’s national police in late 2016 Dekanoidze returned to Georgia where she got actively involved in politics alongside the United National Movement, the opposition party founded by ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.
