The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will decide on a bill regarding the functioning of Ukrainian as the official language during the April 23-26 plenary week, Speaker Andriy Parubiy said.

“We will proceed to passing the law on the functioning of Ukrainian as the official language next week,” Parubiy said, closing the evening plenary session on April 11.

He urged members to mobilize maximum efforts and promised not to sign documents authorizing business trips for that week.

On April 11 the Rada continued debating amendments drafted for the second reading of the language bill and approved 1,832 out of the 2,082 proposed, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported. Thus, the remaining 250 amendments have yet to be considered, after which deputies may start voting on the bill at the second reading.
