Ukrainian soldier Viktor Horodnichenko, who was wounded in action in the Donbas war zone on April 28, died at a military hospital in Kharkiv on May 8.
According to the Poltava Oblast Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, Horodnichenko, 25, was a senior soldier from Poltava Oblast.
Horodnichenko was shot by one of the Russian-sponsored snipers near the frontline village of Zaitsevo in Donetsk Oblast.
After receiving emergency care, he was first transported to a hospital in the city of Bakhmut, located 12 kilometers north of Zaitsevo.
He was later transferred to a military hospital in Kharkiv, a city of 1.4 million people about 480 kilometers east of Kyiv. There, Horodnichenko underwent several surgeries.
He had a daughter and a wife, according to Roman Istomin, a spokesperson for the Poltava Oblast Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support.
